    an original
World War 1 Poster of "United Behind the Service Star" by
illustrator Ernest Hamlin Baker for the United War Work Campaign
The United War Work Campaign was started when President Woodrow
Wilson suggested uniting the separate American relief organizations to raise
funds for providing entertainment for American troops abroad in World War 1.
With a goal of raising 0,500,000 during the week of November 11, 1918,
this was the biggest drive for funds ever attempted at the time.
Seven non-governmental organizations participated in this campaign and are
listed at the bottom of the poster: Young Men's Christian Association, National
Catholic War Council, Jewish Welfare Board, Salvation Army, War Camp
Community Service, American Library Association, Young Women's Christian
    Association.
Above the organization's emblems are seven soldiers standing in the foreground
and holding flags representing the seven organizations that compose the United
War Work Campaign. In the background are soldiers marching and an American flag.
All beautifully illustrated by Ernest Hamlin Baker (1889-1975) who was a self
taught illustrator from Rhode Island. In his lifetime he produced over three hundred
covers for Time Magazine, eleven covers for Fortune Magazine and became
involved in Works Progress Administration programs during the 1930s.
This poster is a great World War 1 period example for someone's collection.
