Description
This Venetian schiavona dates from the mid-1600s. The 74 cm long, wide double-edged blade is marked with the "eyelashes" bladesmith's mark. One of the branches of the guard, as well as the pommel are struck with the armory property marks in the form of the winged Lion of St.Mark's. The basket guard was period-altered, a couple of branches were removed, as we often see on these swords. Blade has an old battle scar on one of the edges. Remarkably, the original grip leather covering is almost entirely intact. An excellent, expressive 17th c. schiavona!
