THE STARS AND STRIPESA Complete File of the Stars and Stripes
The Official Newspaper of the American Expeditionary Forces
Printed in France from February 8th, 1918 to June 13th, 1919.
A. E. F. Publishing Association, 1920. Minneapolis, Minnesota
This extremely rare and historical book contains every page of all 71 issues. Each issue in its original format which has been bound together in a 24" x 18" hardback book cover. The cover shows wear and tear reflecting a natural sign of its age and authenticity. The binding has almost been separated from the front and back cover and the first page; although entirely complete, is torn in three parts. Some of the newspaper edges have either small age spots or are slightly frayed. The print however has not been compromised and is in excellent condition given its age.
The Stars and Stripes was published in France by the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) of the United States Army from February 8, 1918, to June 13, 1919. General John J. Pershing wanted a newspaper written by servicemen for the soldiers on the battlefront.
The newspaper's mission was to strengthen the morale of the troops and to promote unity within the American forces. The venture was immediately popular with the soldiers, quickly selling out its first issue of 1,000 copies. Although designated as the "official newspaper of the AEF," its independent editorial voice earned the confidence and affection of common soldiers.
EXTREMELY RARE AND DELICATE!!!
Note: This military relic was manufactured in France yet published in the United States. I have listed it being manufactured in France due to where it originated.
