    Description

RARE 1770 North Carolina Writ to get from Moses Perkins four pounds one penny which William Bromley recovered for cost. Has two dates October 15th, 1770 and March Term 1771. "North Carolina Salisbury District George the Third. by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, KING, Defender of the Faith etc. To the Sheriff of Rowan County Greeting, It has lots of information like "one waggon" and nine head of sheep seized and signed by Thomas Frohock (1735-1794) ,clerk of the Superior Court from 1769 who later was accused of charging too much for marriage licenses forcing some couples to live together without legal sanction. It also appears to be signed by Thomas Whitson (1732-1808) for the sheriff. He himself was chosen sheriff of Rowan County in 1774, initially supported the American revolutionaries but switched to being a Tory. Fantastic object.
