Description
PORT ROYAL MADE GREEN GLASS RUM BOTTLE, 1692This very crudely made Port Royal made brown glass rum bottle came from the wreck of Captain Henry Morgan's
Jamaica
Brig that sank in the the earthquake & the
destruction
of Port Royal harbor in 1692.
It is a very rare brown glass bottle, 8 3/16” tall x 3 11/16" x 2 15/16 ” & shows many crude blowing flaws.
The raised ring just below the lip around the rim is very crude & sticks out on one side
..
It is in very good + condition without any cracks or chipped & has a small hole in the bottom
It was found in the 1950's & was on display in the Port Royal Museum for many years but was sold by the museum when it closed down to pay off debts. .
Artifacts from Port Royal are now considered to be quite rare & are never seen at antique shows anymore. Port Royal Bay is now so polluted from the sewers of the nearby city that it is dangerous to swim or dive in the water!
See my other Port Royal artifacts a
grape shot ball from Captain Henry Morgan’s brig, & several bronze African trade rings, all listed separately.
