Original WWI US Poster "Czechoslovaks Join Our Free Colors" by Vojtech Preissig, 1918, 25"x36", near mint condition, this rare poster was printed at the Wentworth Institute Boston and represents an unusual aspect of WWI poster effort in the US, here is a description from the Pritzker Military Institute collection:Biographical/Historical:
This poster is the most famous in a series of 16 color linoleum cuts by Vojtech Preissig produced for the Wentworth Institute during World War I. The poster calls for Czechoslovaks living in the U.S. to join the Czech legion. The poster was printed in several languages to reach a wider audience: Czech, Slovak, and English. The flags are of the four regions that would become Czechoslovakia in 1918: Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, and Slovakia. The Resistance flag of the Czechoslovak Independence movement is red, white and blue with stars in the middle. As a result of its alliance with the Allied Powers, Czechoslovakia became an independent country in October 1918.
This is the best of the series, and in remarkable condition.
