    Description

I am offering for sale a rare circa 1680 French "small sword" dating to the era of Louis XIV.  The grip is intricately wrapped in silver wire.  The blade has intricate engravings and a legend engraved on one side stating, "LA LOI LA PATRIE ET LE ROI," which means the law, the homeland, and the king.  The engraving on the other side states, "L' HONNEUR ME PAIT L'RVIR," which means honor pays me (L'RVIR ?).   The clam shell guard is nicely ornamented.  There is slight movement in the guard.  It is in excellent condition for its age.  It measures 33" long.
