A beautiful and unique example of the early rapier on its way to the full swept-hilt but in the earlier stage of the transition, having strong steel hilt mounts with elaborate features and some chiseled decorations, interesting shield shell-guard and a unique large pommel, original wood grip still intact, although showing its extensive age. Wearing a sturdy double edged blade of strong diamond section, exhibiting scattered areas of moderate to heavy pitting and nice rich gray patina throughout. Solid and intact overall on this exceptionally handsome and elegant weapon owned by a young renaissance era aristocrat.
Overall : 39 1/4" Blade : 32 1/4"
