Description
Antique Sterling Silver Walnut Chatelaine Thread WaxerAmerican * Circa 1890s
This rare little figural thread waxer is in the form of a partially opened walnut. T
he top has a ring to attach it to a chatelaine and this ring is marked "Sterling". It contains bees wax and thread would be pulled across the wax at the opening.
The purpose was to coat sewing threads with wax to strengthen them, especially for jobs like sewing on buttons.
The condition of the silver is excellent with no dents or damage and the wax is pretty much intact. It measures about 1 3/8" long. This would be a great addition for an American silver chatelaine.
