    Description

This auction is for a dated 1912 Helen Gould Sewing School Sample Student Workbook which is Old and  Original and filled with Stitchery.  Helen Gould's school was in Irvington on Hudson.  Evidently she was a philanthropist who started the school to empower women to be able to earn a living.  This book is including 24 of the lesson pieces of her student Dena Schwab. Basic stitches evolve into more detailed work...the book is 8" by 8" and the cover is a brown thick paper, the sewing examples are attached to a thick construction paper type page.  There's quite a bit of information online... "Helen Gould, daughter of Jay Gould, inherited the Lyndhurst mansion in 1892. Diverging from her father’s career in the railroad industry, Gould devoted her time to philanthropy. Using the expansive property to her advantage, Gould hosted events and classes to educate and benefit children in the Tarrytown area. The Lyndhurst Sewing school was a product of these efforts...These lessons mobilized her students, allowing them to work in their own homes rather than for other, wealthier women.". We do our best to describe the item as accurately as possible. Please feel free to message me with any questions or for more pictures. Refund given if you are unhappy for any reason.  Priority mail.
