Description

17th Century Fine English / Scottish Silver Kidney / Ballock Dagger
This dagger is quiet a find being in a fine state considering its age and having a scabbard and being a English or Scottish dagger.
The hilt’s design with a sculpted wooden grip of ebony and multiple shaped inlays of bone (deer). the grip also has silver fitting running the length of the handle. Tha guard curved silver quillons and a silver pommel cap.
The blade is in excellent shape and is the traditional double edge design with central ridge. The egde seems to be ground down over its long life, but this appears to have been done with a hand tool, which fits with how it would be done, some small amounts offine diagonal marks can be seen.
The dagger is accompanied by a scabbard that is an antique with silver fitting and clip, this is possibly a later addition.
